Mission Statement:

Our mission is to attract, develop, and retain young professionals in Siouxland by providing insight and opportunities to help shape the future of our community.

The Sioux City Growth Organization (SCGO) was formed in 2002 to encourage young professionals to become active members of the Siouxland community. We encourage progressive and innovative ideas, and bring together voices from all generations to create a positive impact on the future of our community. Our goal is to attract and retain young professionals in the area, by providing insight on what Sioux City has to offer and how they can get involved in shaping its future.

We offer committee, board and volunteer opportunities; networking, social and educational events; and create or support projects that enhance our community and support our mission. We hope you find this group as exciting and beneficial to the community as we do!

President

Northwest Iowa has been where I have called home for the majority of my life. After growing up in the small town of Fonda, Iowa, I looked to find somewhere new to call home. I wanted to find a city big enough that there were plenty of professional opportunities and things to do, but not too big that I’d get lost in a sea of people and not have the opportunity to make a difference. I am happy to have found all these positive things in Siouxland and have had the pleasure to call it my home for the last 10 years.

I attended WITCC and Briar Cliff University for accounting and business. I spend my work days at Security National Bank of Sioux City, where I am a Commercial Banker. I feel fortunate to have found a company that stands behind so many local organizations and advocates for volunteering. Businesses like Security National Bank, along with so many others, help make Siouxland a great place to live because of their encouragement and support of many local organizations like SCGO.

The people of Siouxland continue to prove that we desire to continue to make our community a fantastic place to live. Siouxland has so many opportunities for young people to stay involved including a thriving entrepreneurial community, tons of outdoor activities, local breweries and wineries, successful semi-pro sports teams, concerts, festivals, and some of the best food in Iowa. With your help, we can continue to find new and exciting ways to improve our corner of Iowa for young professionals.  If you have any additional ideas that that can fulfill this need or have any questions, please let me know.

I grew up in the Siouxland area and graduated from Sioux City North High School. I received my undergraduate and Master of Public Administration degrees from the University of South Dakota. After graduating I was fortunate enough to receive an offer to move back to my hometown and become the Executive Director at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland. After three years at the helm of Big Brothers Big Sisters I continued my journey intro philanthropy by becoming a Development Director at the UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Foundation.  I have a passion for working with other nonprofit and government agencies, and I strive to find ways for others to get engaged with them as well. SCGO is a great opportunity to find what you are passionate about and use it to better the community we live in.

Secretary

I grew up in Fostoria, a small town between Spencer and Milford, and went on to receive a degree in Architecture from Iowa State University. I moved to Sioux City to work for Cannon Moss Brygger Architects. A coworker suggested joining Sioux City GO to meet people, and I have been active in the organization ever since! Since joining SCGO, I have met a ton of young professionals in the metro area, and have made great friends in the process.

I love all of the opportunities SCGO presents. You meet new people and network at socials, you can volunteer to help in the community, and you can attend events like the Innovation Market. When Sioux City GO plans all of these events, they are hoping to help build upon our community and develop new relationships and possibilities in Siouxland. Getting out and being active in these events has helped me meet new people in Sioux City, and to help me along my own career development path.

I grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Dakota Valley High School in 2009. I headed off to college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where I studied Biomedical Engineering. After graduation I moved back to Sioux City and joined my father’s Financial Planning firm, Kruse Financial Group. Being gone from Sioux City for 5 years I immediately started looking for ways to get involved in Sioux City, which is how I found Sioux City Growth Organization.

I initially joined SCGO to find ways to get involved in the city and to network with other young professionals. I soon learned, however, that SCGO is so much more than that. It is a great organization that is filled with great people. Everything that we do as an organization is focused on how we can make Sioux City a better place for everyone, not just young professionals. I have made some amazing friendships and have been a part of some great things through SCGO, so I would encourage anyone joining the organization to do what I did, and jump right in!
